Street Art in Chicago

I have been wanting to do this for a while, but a few days ago one of my best friends and I went on a bike exploration of the city of Chicago to find as much street art as we could. A few months ago, I went to get a sports massage in West Town (on the west side of Chicago, clearly..) and I came across a few different murals. West Town isn’t an area I visited too frequently, but I was blown away when I drove just a few blocks and saw mural after mural. If you live in any urban area, there is bound to be street art somewhere. Now, I have never known a ton about art, but I am always mystified but the abilities artists have. Trust me, I wish I could draw/sing/paint/literally do anything creative in that capacity. The people who made these are true artists. Anyway, my friend Dani was in town visiting from China, and we decided to take our bikes and ride around town to find all of the street art. If you live in an urban area (or maybe even not urban?) I highly recommend searching online to find a guide to street art. I guarantee there are TONS more places in our city – we were only going down three or four streets in one neighborhood and ran across tons of murals.   We searched “Chicago Street Art” to find some inspiration of…

Marriott Mag Mile – Just Magnificent

Magnificent: Impressively beautiful, elaborate, or extravagant; striking When I think of the word magnificent, I think of something that is truly awe inspiring and different. People who come to visit Chicago almost always make a trip to the Mag Mile – filled with shops, restaurants, hotels, and just about everything wonderful you could imagine. As a Chicagoan, I don’t think I always appreciate it for what it is – truly awe inspiring and striking. Two weeks ago I was invited to spend the night at the Marriott Mag Mile. The stay included dinner at their on site restaurant, Harvest, an opportunity to tour and utilize their state of the art fitness center and fitness lab, and an overnight stay in one of their remodeled guest rooms. I haven’t been able to make it out of town in quite a while, so this overnight stay at an incredible hotel right in the heart of Chicago was an incredible opportunity and exciting event. I was teaching bootcamp at Kick@55 so I was a bit late to dinner, but I was able to make it just as dinner at Harvest was starting. We were treated to a ‘Fit Fam’ menu – items made on site using local and fresh ingredients. Dinner included two salads, three main courses, and two desserts – all focused on utilizing the best ingredients, put together in a delicious and healthy way. First, we were able to try the two salads &#8211…

The Sunday Ritual: Meal Prep

I have this thing I do every week that I like to call ‘The Sunday Ritual’. Many of us have things like this – maybe it’s getting up and going to church, maybe it’s going for a Sunday walk or to brunch. Mine happens to be grocery shopping and meal prepping. Usually, I absolutely love to do both. However, I will admit that there are times that they are a chore. When I’m tired or exhausted after having a busy weekend, the last thing I want to do is cook for 3-4 hours. But, it’s become a part of my weekly routine, and it is what helps me stay on track and prepared for the week. We are all incredibly busy with tons of commitments. We have full time jobs, we are full time students, we balance a social life with our friends, time with our families, activities with people from our jobs whether it be sports teams or leading a club – not to mention trying to fit in time at the gym! With so much going on, how is it even possible that we could eat healthy and make healthy choices? For me, with so much going on all the time, I’ve found that meal prepping can be LIFE CHANGING and TIME SAVING. I don’t have time every single night to cook a lunch for the next day. Some people do – and…

No Fear. No Embarrassment.

The same thing is true for health and for fitness. You cannot have fear and you cannot be embarrassed. Even when you see people in the gym who are ripped – EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE STARTED SOMEWHERE. I have to remind myself of that every day. We are always going to see people who are ahead of where we are or who are already at where we may want to be – but it doesn’t matter where they are! They all started at Day 1 too!! I did, my trainers at Kick@55 did, heck even Heidi Somers and Amanda Bucci started somewhere too! We can’t be afraid of looking silly or looking stupid. If anyone makes a comment, it comes from insecurities within themselves. It sounds cliche, and it might sound stupid, but it honestly is true. You have to commit and you have to believe in yourself. You can’t worry about looking silly or looking stupid. You will only grow if you put in the effort and you will only grow if sometimes you look stupid. The more you work, the more consistent you are, the better you get, and the closer you get to the results you want. Hard work, consistency, and no fear – that will get you to where you want to be. xx…
